KIBBUTZ SHORTS
Happy Birthday!
Degania, the first kibbutz in the world, has recently celebrated its 95th
birthday! Today, in Degania Aleph there is one fifth-generation family and
7 fourth generation families! The oldest member of the 4th generation is
32 years old and has 2 children, who comprise the 5th generation. Right
now, Degania is moving towards more privatization. (Interestingly -
unlike almost all kibbutzim - it never had the children sleeping in the
children's houses.)

Anthroposophy Anniversary
Kibbutz Harduf has recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of its development home for people with
special needs. Run according to the principles of anthroposophy, its staff includes 27 specialists in
different fields, approximately one for every two residents. It has now opened a three-year seminar to
train others to do similar work.
We Are The Champions
When the football team of the Arab town, Sachnin, won the Israeli football
championship, the members chose to celebrate their victory at the nearby
Kibbutz Eshbal! This was an impressive tribute to the coexistence activities
of this educational kibbutz, which belongs to the Graduate Movement of the
Working and Studying Youth Movement (NOAL).

CALL doesn't usually refer to political events but here is an exception in which
kibbutznikim were very involved. Just before the disengagement from the Gaza Strip, 2
kibbutz members, after tortuous negotiations, arranged the transfer of most of the
greenhouses to the Palestinian authorities, via an international body. The idea was to
ensure the livelihood of the Arab workers. In addition, a hundred Kibbutz volunteers
Taking Down the assisted those settlers, who wish to continue farming, to dismantle and shift their
Gaza Hothouses agricultural facilities.
CALL: Cartoons, Caricatures and their Captions
Our cartoonist, Moshik Lin, member of Kibbutz Netzer Sereni,
doesn't draw only for CALL! His cartoons, political caricatures
and illustrations appear regularly in "Maariv", Israel's second
daily newspaper. Together with his other works, they can now
be found on internet at http://www.moshik.netzersereni.net So
far, the captions are only in Hebrew, but will soon appear in
English as well. At the moment, he is also working
simultaneously on 3 childrens books, to join the 30 that he
has already illustrated.
