Narrow Path Of Migration
The whole length of the Jordan Valley has become a narrow channel for
hundreds of thousands (some say millions) of birds migrating in the fall from all
over Europe to the sunny climate of Africa - and all of them pass through Israel.
Two Kibbutzim - Kfar Ruppin in the North and Lotan, the desert eco-Kibbutz in
the South – have established "bird centers" for watchers and scientists from all
over the world. People flock to these locations to see the birds rest from
anywhere between an hour and a few days. It is possible to watch beautiful bird
formations and aerobatics. For many this is much more than just a hobby! Wagtail sighted

Has The Season Come? Is It Over?
M. Koren has left his Kibbutz some time ago. He sends his "complaints" to the Kibbutz weekly: "Here in
town I have no idea what season we are in. Back home we knew when winter came: so much mud that
we could not go out to work the fields, when summer came - the swimming pool opened. The fall was
announced by the European Wagtail arriving and some of them staying here until spring. Now I am
disconnected from nature!”
How to Achieve Excellency

th
In a national T.V. contest for 6 graders, 4 graders of the Kibbutz
Chatzerim school came to compete too. When asked how they dared to
challenge boys and girls two years older, they explained: Ours is a very
special class; we have - besides Kibbutz kids - some children from a
nearby air-force centre, and a number of immigrants from Russia,
Argentina and Ethiopia from the nearby towns. That gives us the
excellence required.

What Do You Want To Do When You Grow Up?
Like all members of Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, Israel Rosenberg reports for
work every morning, checking and repairing the Kibbutz machines and
tractors. Unlike everyone else, he does not walk the lengthy way to the
garage: he commutes on his electric scooter, because Israel is now 90
years old. A festive birthday celebration will soon gather all adults and
children of his Kibbutz.
