As 2013 comes to a close, it seems
appropriate to simultaneously reflect 3
on the year that was, and look The Loft, USA
forward to the new opportunities that
2014 brings. 4
House Of Commons,
This is an exercise that we did as a
community for many years, albeit in Canada
the autumn at the turn of the Jewish
New Year. We discussed our past 6
successes and failures, and made commitments to ourselves and Kaleidoscope
each other with regards to the year ahead.

So what is my pronouncement? The highlight of my year was most The Hutterites by Ruth
certainly moving house. Yes, you did read that correctly, I look Lambach

place this summer as not just a high point of my year, but a high 9

You see, my whole urban kibbutz of 120 moved into one eight-
storied building. We have family spaces, group spaces, a dry goods
store, a pub, a gym, an art studio, a wood workshop, a music 11

The change is dramatic; instead of living in apartments spread out 21 Century
over a whole neighbourhood, we can now stake our claim to be the
largest intentional community in the world living under one roof. 16
Jewish Intentional
This environment, for children and adults alike, facilitates a Communities
multitude of diverse day-to-day encounters. We bump into each Conference
other in the stairwells in the morning, sit around dinner tables for
meals, and meet up in the evenings for a beer or for a meeting. 19
Kalevan Kansa
We are learning to take advantage of our new situation and it’s commune, Finland and
certainly a learning process that I am thoroughly enjoying. Hey,
why not come over for a visit and see for yourself? Canada
Looking ahead to 2014, I want to wish us all a meaningful and 21
fulfilling year of community – sharing our lives with others and Cherith Brook, USA
deepening our relationships. That is the essence of what living in
intentional community is all about. 22
